Sittingbourne in the 21st century must be recorded for future generations, a leading town heritage campaigner

has said.

Peter Morgan, chairman of Sittingbourne Heritage Museum, is also seeking support towards the making of a film which will record town buildings and events before multi-million pound regeneration begins to change the face of the town.

He said: “We have around 700 old postcards of scenes in and around Sittingbourne, but no film of local activities.

“We believe it would be of great interest if we could find old

pictorial records, but we want to create a history of what the town looked like before massive redevelopment takes place.”

Sittingbourne Community College’s film and media studies department has offered the technical skills of staff and guidance in production of a film. Now Mr Morgan and his team are looking for other partners who could help fund the project.

“We are looking for a ride in a hot air balloon so that we can take aerial views of the town and views of the areas which are the subject of development.”

He is also looking for any film taken on home movie cameras, including carnivals, fetes, school sports days and visits by special guests to the town.

“We are hoping there will be people with family archives that we would like to transfer on to CD or to DVD to incorporate into our film of the town and the countryside.

“We also welcome suggestions from townspeople as to what should be recorded.

“We want to make this a community project headed by the Heritage Museum.”

“We need all the help and ideas Sittingbourne people can think of,” Mr Morgan added.
