Two Island musicians and a Sheppey band are competing against each other and 70 other projects from around the county for a prize worth more than £1,000.

Indie band The Mondays and soloists Robot is Stupid and Art Brunell are going head-to-head in Kent TV’s Sound Clash 2009.

The competition has been launched by Kent County Council’s Kent TV and Invicta FM and is an online ‘battle of the bands’.

To be in with a chance of winning £1,000 cash and a professionally made music video, each artist must enter one song.

Fans can log onto a website to vote for their favourite, and the ones with the most votes will go through to the final eight.

Judges will then choose two bands to go through to the final, when fans can vote again.

The Mondays is made up of vocalist Tom Snelgrove, 23, Rob Snelgrove, 23, on keyboards, guitarist Callum Lukey, 21, Tony Guest, 23, on bass and drummer Jordan Weller, 18.

They take their influences from a range of different artists including The Jam, The Clash, and The Ordinary Boys, and recently came third in a Maidstone battle of the bands competition.
