Talented singers have recorded a CD to raise money in memory of fallen Sheppey soldier Daniel Holkham.

Hopes, Dreams and Wishes is a commemorative album recorded for the Dannyboy Trust (DBT).

DBT was set up in honour of the 19-year-old rifleman, who died while on duty in Afghanistan last year.

It aims to support schools, youth and sports clubs and children’s organisations on the Island.

The CD was officially launched on Saturday which was a year since Daniel’s St George’s Day funeral.

It contains 18 tracks sung by artists who all performed at The Poppy Ball – which was held at Merlins Entertainment Complex in Leysdown last December to raise money for the trust.

The vocalists on the CD are 16-year-old Isle of Sheppey Academy pupil Laura Drew, 18-year-old Amy Collier, from Minster, wartime singer Annie Love and London vocalist Richard Mitchell.

Laura finished off the live entertainment at last year’s ball with a version of Danny Boy which is featured on the album.

As well as raising money, it has helped to realise the ambitions of Laura and Amy – who have always wanted to release a CD.

It was recorded at Mr Mitchell’s studio in London and he donated the cost back to the trust.

DBT secretary Iain Maxstead said: “It’s fantastic – I think people will be really surprised. It’s fulfilled Laura and Amy’s dreams and all the money raised will benefit youngsters on the Island.”

Anyone is welcome to a copy of the album and the trust is asking for a minimum £5 donation.

The DBT has organised another ball to take place at Merlins.

The Spring Prom Ball will be on Saturday, May 21, from 7pm and is open to 14 to 16-year-olds.

Tickets cost £5 and all drinks will be £1 on the night.

To get your copy of the CD, or tickets for the ball, visit the website or write to The Dannyboy Trust, 21 St James Close, Warden Bay, Kent, ME12 4NW.
