PROPERTY prices nationally rose by 2.9 per cent last month, bringing the increase so far this year to five per cent in just two months according to Rightmove, the leading indicator of residential property prices.

Connells regional director, Alan Gottschalk, said: “Locally we have had a busy start to the year. Many people delayed moving last year because they thought prices might fall but now they are realising that the slump predicted by the doom and gloom merchants just isn’t going to happen.

"With interest rates set to remain low, buyers are now coming back to the market with renewed confidence.”

Spring is traditionally a busy time in the housing market. The clocks go forward heralding longer days and the weather has started to improve. With spring flowers in full bloom many gardens are now looking particularly attractive.

Mr Gottschalk said: “Anyone who has watched one of the property shows which seem to dominate our TV screens these days knows the importance of kerb appeal when selling their home.

“At this time of year, when there is plenty of colour in the garden and summer weeds haven’t yet begun to try and take over, many properties are looking their best. This is an ideal time to put a property on the market.”
