A Kent coach company has come to the rescue of a school choir after they were unable to perform at a major awards ceremony.

YMS Travel has agreed to transport Bromstone Primary School’s choir to their big date free of charge after the school ran into trouble with a booking through another company.

The Thanet choir won the Kent Walk to School Song Contest last year after being picked by a panel of music experts. Part of the prize will be to perform their winning version of Reach for the Stars, by S Club 7, at the annual Kent Walk to School Awards, due to be staged at the Historic Dockyard, Chatham, next week.

James Wilford, Managing Director of YMS Travel said “It will be a pleasure to help Bromstone Primary School. We took them to the recording studio back in July last year for the walk to school song contest and after seeing they had won decided it would great to share their big day again by helping them get to their performance at the Historic Dockyard.”

Mr Wilford, who operates a fleet of 13 coaches and buses of all sizes, does a large amount of private hire work to schools in the East Kent area. The company specialises in economy high capacity hire to help schools keep cost to a minimum without compromising on reliability and safety.

Simon Dolby from the KM Walk to School Team said: “YMS Travel has been like the Seventh Cavalry coming to our rescue when it looked like the choir would not be able to get to the event. Everyone at our charity is so grateful he could step in at such short notice to help – and to do so for free was unexpected but most welcome.”

The Kent Walk to School Awards will showcase the very best green travel initiatives being used by primary schools in the county. More than 30 schools will be recognised at the event.
