Drivers have been suffering long delays after the Sevenoaks bypass was closed when a lorry hit a footbridge this afternoon.

Both carriageways of the A21, near Hildenborough, were shut between Pembury Road and Quarry Hill Road - causing long tailbacks.

It was closed at around 12.45pm when a low loader lorry carrying machinery struck a bridge.

Kent Police officers were called to the scene and reported debris in the road.

The A21 southbound was reopened at about 4pm and the northbound carriageway was expected to be reopened by early evening once the footbridge was cleared of loose concrete.

Motorists were warned to expect delays and a diversion was put in place for traffic via Morleys Interchange, the B245 and the A26.
