Welling boss Jamie Day says he hopes he hasn't seen the last of Gillingham striker Andy Pugh in a Wings shirt.

Pugh finished his three-month loan spell from Priestfield on Saturday with a hat-trick in Welling's 5-0 win at Woking.

Day wants to sign him permanently at the end of the season, when he is likely to be released by the Gills, after he his eight goals in 15 games with Welling.

"I hope it's not the last we've seen of him," said Day. Obviously he wants to go back and see if he can crack it at Gills full-time which we fully understand.

"I'd love to have kept him but, come the end of the season, if the worst comes to the worst and he does get released then I'm hoping that we'll be the first club he makes contact with."

Day is turning his attentions to a replacement this week ahead of Saturday's key Blue Square South clash at home to Bath.

"We've got a few in mind but there's not a massive amount of money that we've got to spend," he said. "But they've got to suit our team and our style of play.

"There's a possibility of someone in the Football League and we're looking at the league below as well in terms of players who have scored a few goals there."
