A BOY of 12 has died after a collision with a motoryclist on a busy road in Medway.

Carl Smith, of Romany Road, Twydall, Gillingham, was struck by a Suzuki motorbike on the Northern Link at about 4pm on Saturday.

The bike rider, Michael Booth, 30, of Richmond Close, Walderslade, was seriously injured. He was thrown from his bike, and suffered head, face and rib injuries.

He was taken to the Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham but later transferred to a hospital at East Grinstead in west Sussex.

At the accident scene on Saturday, a passer-by gave Carl artificial resuscitation until paramedics could take over. She also needed medical help for severe shock.

The paramedic team used advanced resuscitation equipment to try to save Carl's life but were unable to revive him. Police said he died at the scene.

A number of children were questioned by police officers at the scene as they gathered clues about the possible causes.

Flowers were left on the central reservation of the dual carriageway on Sunday morning by relatives and friends close to the spot where Carl died.

An inquest will be held. Police have appealed for witnesses.
