Body of 28-year old man found in river

The body of a 28-year old Strood man was pulled out of the River Medway near Rochester Bridge on Wednesday evening

Police were called to the Esplanade in Rochester at 6.10pm after a member of the public discovered a pile of clothing.

Officers on patrol went to the scene and discovered the body in the water.

A police spokesman said: “Police are investigating the circumstances but are not treating the incident as suspicious.

“The man has now been formally identified and his family have been informed.”

Medway Coroner’s Office said an inquest into the man’s death would be opened and adjourned later this week.
