Jessica McQueen may stand down as Ebbsfleet chairman this summer after a season which has left her "exhausted" and the club in a financial mess.

Late nights working in the club office have kept Mrs McQueen (pictured) away from the terraces and last month she had to break the news that players and staff would not be paid their March wages in full.

Along with fellow director Phil Sonsara, Mrs McQueen has carried the burden of responsibility throughout a turbulent campaign which has ended in relegation.

The Fleet are set to return to Conference South next season but even that, like Mrs McQueen’s future, is uncertain. After 11 months in the hotseat, the Stonebridge Road chief admits she has considered stepping aside.

He said: "I’ve thought about it a lot. At the end of the season, Phil and I will sit down and will discuss what we’re going to do.

"If we aren’t here, I’m sure someone else will come and sit in the chair and do what needs to be done. All they have to do is understand what an enormous task it is.

"It’s put an unbelievable strain on me. Most nights I’m here until gone 10 o’clock and I never thought I’d say this but I can’t wait for the end of the season to come. I’m exhausted by it all."
