Port alert for missing teenager

MISSING: Amanda McDonnell
MISSING: Amanda McDonnell

KENT port workers are on the lookout for a teenage girl believed to be on the run with her 17-year-old boyfriend.

The family of 14-year-old Amanda McDonnell raised the alarm after she disappeared from their home near Alicante, in Spain, 4am on Friday.

She is believed to be with Steven Lane, and they may be travelling in a Belgian-registered grey Opal Omega estate car, registration number LGY 934.

They could have false passports which show they are 18 years of age. Amanda’s mother and stepfather, Carol and Malcolm Beech, suspect the pair have taken a ferry to Britain.

Amanda has sharp features, a fair complexion and fair hair. She is five feet seven inches tall and slim with a blue rose tattoo on her abdomen. She was born in Stoke on Trent and speaks with an English accent.

Amanda suffers from asthma and is receiving medical treatment for anorexia. She has left without taking an inhaler, despite the fact that she once stopped breathing during an asthma attack.

Steven speaks with a Glasgow accent. He has an uneven complexion and short brown hair. He is five feet seven inches and has his name tattooed down his spine in Chinese or Japanese.

The couple met four or five months ago, when Steven worked at a bar in Spain.

Amanda emptied her wardrobe when she left, taking all her shoes and even a duvet, pillows and an inflatable bed. She is believed to have packed items into sports bags. She also is believed to have taken a favourite beige canvas handbag with a floral pattern. The bag is medium sized with two handles.

“We are frantic with worry,” said Mrs Beech. “We need publicity about Amanda so that someone may recognise her and have her apprehended, so she can be returned to us safe and well,” she said.

Mrs Beech and her husband have also alerted police in Kent, Fife, Hampshire and Devon and Cornwall. “We concentrated on those police forces which have ferry ports,” she said, “ but they could be anywhere.” They also have reported Amanda missing to local Spanish police.

Anyone who sees either Amanda or Steven is asked to contact Dover police on 01304 240055 or the anonymous and free Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
