A man has been left seriously injured following a crash involving a motorbike and a car.

Police and paramedics were called to the scene in Broad Oak Road, Canterbury, at about 3am today.

The motorcyclist was riding a white Honda towards Sturry when he collided with a white Renault 5 close to the junction with Farleigh Road.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the crash and remains in custody.

Residents have reported online that an air ambulance landed in nearby playing fields early this morning.

Andrew Wills, who lives in Salisbury Road, heard the helicopter flying over his home just before 4.50am.

The motorcyclist was taken to a London hospital for treatment, where he remains in a serious condition.

The road was closed until about 12pm as police continued to investigate.

Jim Titheridge wrote on the Canterbury Residents' Facebook page: "It happened right outside where I was working and I never heard anything - no skidding or anything.

"The police didn't use their sirens when they came to it, in fact it was very quiet. I would not have even known it had happened if one of our drivers hadn't been stopped out on the road."
