The Princess Royal is to visit Canterbury Prison

The Princess Royal is coming to Canterbury next month to visit the city’s jail which is marking its 200th anniversary.

Princess Anne is patron of the Butler Trust, a charity which supports innovative rehabilitation projects with offenders.

But her visit on July 15 is not specifically in connection with its work. Instead she will meet staff, both present and past, and learn about the prison’s long history and the many roles it has has over the last 200 years, including its current status in accommodating exclusively foreign national inmates.
